Inspiration

09/09/2014 by Dada Filed Under: Other crochet projects 16 Comments

Beautiful crochet motif
Inspiration is everywhere! And inspiration can be anything. It can be a beautiful object, a favorite song, a good book, an interesting poem, time of the day, a pleasant scent, a movie, a conversation with a good friend… anything. Even a pair of tennis shoes.
Since I began to crochet, I have been inspired mostly by other people’s beautiful work. But, the other day, we received the tennis shoes we had ordered online a few days earlier, for our son. When I opened the box, the first thing that came to my mind was: “Why sneakers like these did not exist when I was a kid?”

My second thought was that I’m pleased that my boy likes colors. He chose those snickers. And He’s thirteen. A very tricky period. Especially for the parents.

As you can see, I was inspired by those beautiful colors, and was lucky to find the exact shade of blue (maybe more turquoise) and red in my yarn stock.
The pattern for this triangle I found in the book: “Beyond the Square Crochet Motifs: 144 circles, hexagons, triangles, squares, and other unexpected shapes” by Edie Eckman
Crochet doily free pattern
This is my first doily ever! To be honest, when I started my exciting crochet adventure, I didn’t think that I would ever make any doily. But, I have to say, that I really enjoyed making it. It was somehow soothing, like a pleasant meditation. Building something slowly, row by row… I liked it.
The pattern for the small motif is also from the book “Beyond the square Crochet Motifs”

For the doily, I used 100% cotton yarn 125m/50g (“Tango” from St. George). I didn’t use thin thread for doilies. Pattern for the doily you can find on one of the most beautiful crochet blogs I’ve ever seen, Anabelia craft design. I’m so impressed with beautiful crochet, free tutorials & patterns and exceptional photography on that blog. It is definitely one of my favorite places on the Internet. The pattern can be found here.

The magic of crochet

Beyond the square crochet motifs
In the last few months, I mostly worked on my own projects and designs. But recently, I felt the need to explore and try out a variety of other people’s patterns, so I took one of the three crochet book I own (I know! That is totally shocking and unacceptable, and I promise that in the future I will try to increase my crochet library), and found some beautiful motifs I wanted to make.

I totally fell in love with this lacy square…

… and of course I couldn’t stop myself, so I made 7 of them, even though my primary intention was to make only one.

I chose pastel colors. Love working with bright, soft colors. But, you know that already.

Can you imagine baby blanket made of these beautiful squares? I sure can. Actually I can’t get it out of my head…

I must admit something to you. Each and every day I told myself, or my husband, my dog or the Universe how lucky I was to find crochet. It really transformed my life. In a very good way. It makes my days more creative, colorful, brighter and fulfilled. And also transformed me. I started to believe in miracles… and to see them happening…

Do you believe in miracles? I do. And I definitely believe in the magic of crochet.

Colors + yarn = my favorite combination! I bought these crochet thread last year, when I was making my little crochet hearts. The other day I ran across these thread when I was looking for something in my closet. And as soon as I saw it, I knew that I had to crochet something.
Crochet lavender sachets
I decided to make little lavender sachet.
Beautiful crochet lavender sachets
It was so enjoyable sitting with my favorite cup of tea and crocheting, while the scent of lavender spread around the room…

I thought to make only one sachet. But, when I started I couldn’t stop myself.
Flowery crochet lavender sachets
So, I made four of them. I used my Flowery granny square pattern.

and I’m really happy with how they turned out.
