Crochet Pattern: Felicity Shawl

25/01/2021 by Dada Filed Under: Scarves and shawls 8 Comments

Crochet pattern Felicity Shawl by dadas place 1

Felicity Shawl is a modern, asymmetrical triangular crochet shawl. It is worked back and forth in rows. The best thing about this shawl is how easy and quick it is to make. It took me only 8 days to finish it. And, of course, I didn’t crochet all the time. The stitch pattern is very interesting and repetitive, so when you remember 4 rows repeat, you can relax and listen to your favorite audiobook or podcast. Some of you would probably be able to watch something on YouTube or Netflix. I don’t watch anything while crocheting. I’m the listening person. When I crochet (something not too demanding) I listen to audiobooks, or podcasts. That’s my favorite time of the day.

The shawl is 180 cm (70.8”) wide, but you can make it in any size. If you want it smaller, just make fewer repeats, and in case you want a bigger shawl, add more repeats, and finish when you reach the desired size.

I made this shawl with Alize Angora Gold yarn I used in many of my previous projects. This time I combined it with Alize Angora Gold Simli yarn which has a very thin metallic thread in it, so it’s sparkly, which I really like.

I decided to make this shawl in two colors, because I love stripes. Actually, I’m lying. I decided to make stripes because I didn’t have enough blue yarn to complete the shawl. It was a holiday break, and my yarn shop was closed for 10 days. I couldn’t wait so long, so I took a look at my yarn stash and found this beautiful ivory shade of Alize Angora Gold Simli yarn, and solved the problem. It would probably look great only in blue color, as well.

Crochet Pattern: Tayna Shawl

Crochet Triangle Striped Shawl with lace border 1

Tayna shawl was inspired by the knitted shawl I saw on the lovely Little drops of wonderful podcast (which I’ve just recently started to watch). The shawl was quite simple, with a striped body and a lacy border in contrasting color. It is the pattern by Knitting Expat Designs called Highland peaks shawl, and if you are a knitter, or just curious to see how it looks, you can check it out HERE.

I decided to make the striped body using a moss stitch (linen stitch), because it’s not only easy to make, but also beautiful. I used it before in my Concept shawl. Worked in 2 color stripes, it remands me of granny stripe blankets.

The yarn I used is perfect for this project. It’s beautiful, very, very soft yarn, not at all scratchy, which is important if you’re going to wear it around your neck. It is Silky Lace by Katia, 80% merino extrafine superwash – 20% silk, 50g/260m. I enjoyed working with this gorgeous yarn so much that I’ve already ordered it again for my next project. I ordered it from Yarnstreet.com. They have the best prices, and they usually ship the next day!

When I finished the body of the shawl, I had a hard time deciding which color to use for the border. I ordered 4 different colors (black, burgundy red, mustard and pale pink). It seemed as if every color would be perfect for the border, but in the end I decided on burgundy red, although I think that mustard would be just as good. So, after taking pictures of the finished shawl, I played with colors in Photoshop, and changed the border color to mustard, just to see how it would look. I was very pleased with the result, and now I’m thinking of maybe making yet another shawl, this time with mustard border. But since several new ideas are already simmering in my head, it’s unlikely that this will happen.

I paid much attention to the border. I wanted a beautiful and exquisite lace border, which I managed to achieve after a lot of math and trials and errors.

I used 3 mm crochet hook for the body, and 2.5 mm hook for the border.

The pattern is very detailed. It contains 118 step-by-step pictures, 4 crochet charts, a stitch guide, a written pattern, information on materials needed, and a stitch count. I would say that it is an ideal project for an intermediate crocheter or an adventurous beginner.

Crochet Pattern: Gretta Shawl

24/11/2020 by Dada Filed Under: Scarves and shawls 8 Comments

This is Gretta Shawl. I named it after the main female character from one of my all time favorite movies “Begin again”. I love everything about that movie: the plot, the characters, the actors, the music, the atmosphere… It’s fun and encouraging. And I really like its message, that anyone can always begin again… including you, and me… Life always gives us a chance for a new beginning. I love that!

It is unusually cold in my apartment today, so I’m writing this post wrapped my in Gretta shawl. It is really soft and warm. I promised to my son yesterday that his lovely girlfriend can get any shawl of mine she wants, but I honestly hope that she won’t choose this one. I would really like to keep it. That’s how much I like it! I also enjoyed making it.

Gretta shawl is a modern cable shawl. It’s quite big (175 cm wide and 80 cm long before blocking), but you can easily adjust the size simply by making less repeats before you add the edge (if you want a smaller shawl), or to add more repeats in case you want a bigger one.

This is my first cable pattern ever, and I can only say that cables are fun to make! And most importantly they are quite easy to crochet. I will definitely make more cable patterns in the future. I already have a few ideas in my head.

For this shawl I used beautiful and very affordable Alize Angora Gold yarn. It’s 80% Acrylic, 20% Wool, 100 g/550 m (3.58 Oz/601 yds). This yarn is not heavy, so, the shawl is quite lightweight. When you wear it, it is not heavy on your shoulders.
I used 4 skeins of 100 g, or approximately 330 g.
The pattern is very detailed (as always), and it has:

– a row-by-row written instruction,
– a step-by-step picture tutorial on how to make Cable2 and Cable6
– a step-by-step photo tutorial of first 6 rows,
– 5 crochet charts,
– several diagrams,
– information on materials needed,
– a stitch guide,
-and 69 step-by-step pictures.

I would say that Gretta shawl is an ideal crochet projects for everyone who has mastered the basic crochet stitches, and wants to expand their crochet knowledge, or learn something new.
