Vintage Crochet Teddy Bear Blanket Pattern

16/06/2017 by Dada Filed Under: Crochet baby blanket patterns 20 Comments

This is my second Teddy Bear Blanket Pattern. Vintage style this time. You may be wondering now: “Why did she decide to make another teddy bear blanket pattern?” Initially, I didn’t. It just happened. Like it had happened with so many crochet projects of mine before.

The story goes something like this: I wanted to take some new pictures of my old teddy bear blanket, to update my shop, but since I had sold the blanket a long time ago, I decided to make a new one and to take pictures of it later. And I wanted to add a few little changes to the pattern. Nothing big, only one or two small improvements to the existing pattern. But once I began making the square, it started to live a life of its own. It wanted to look like something my grandmother would crochet for her kids back in the time… so, I followed, and the square turned out quite different from the original one. Then I decided not to replace the old pattern with the new one, but to add it to my existing patterns. Because, after all, they are completely different patterns. Even the bears aren’t the same. That’s the reason why I now have 2 Teddy Bear blanket patterns in my shop.

Let’s say a few words about this blanket. The blanket measures approximately 78 x 94 cm (30” x 37”) and it is made of 42 Teddy Bear granny squares. The edge is very simple, almost indiscernible, and it merges with the blanket, which is exactly what I wanted to achieve because let’s be real, the stars of the blanket are the teddy bears, so I didn’t want them to be overshadowed by the edge.

The choice of yarn is very important to me. Not only the quality of the yarn, but also the colors. Especially the colors. Although this blanket isn’t particularly colorful, I chose these colors very carefully. I took several important things into consideration. First, I wanted the colors to match and complement each other, secondly, I wanted the colors to have a vintage touch. And I wanted to keep it simple, and to use as few colors as possible. I reduced my color palette to only three colors. I think that’s enough. At least in this case. The yarn I used is my beloved 100% cotton yarn “Tango” 125/50m from St. George.

I used 3.5 mm crochet hook (USA – E/4; UK – 9). The pattern is written in English (US and UK crochet terms) and German. I would say that it’s suitable for intermediate level of crocheters.

The pattern is very detailed and easy to follow, with more than 120 step-by-step photographs on how to make Teddy bear granny square, how to join the squares together, and how to make the border.

How To Be a Wildflower Blanket Pattern

08/02/2017 by Dada Filed Under: Crochet baby blanket patterns 7 Comments

I love vintage crochet, so when I was making this blanket I wanted to invoke those vintage vibes and to weave them into it. I also wanted this blanket to remind me of the slowness of earlier times when people had time and patience to actually live and enjoy their lives without hustle and bustle of the modern life. I wanted to slow down and to enjoy every stitch. And to be happy and satisfied with the result. And I did. I enjoyed making every stitch of this blanket, and I’m pretty happy with the result.

Yet not everything went smoothly. I struggled with the pattern, especially with converting octagons into squares, but somehow, I managed to put every part of the puzzle into its proper place, and in the end, everything turned out well. But, it required patience, the long process of trial and error, and not giving up. But, when you have a vision and love for what you’re doing it’s easy not to give up. I learned that lesson in the last 4 years by working this job I really love.

I made this blanket using 100% cotton yarn “Golf” and “Tango” from St. George (manufacturer from Serbia) 125m/50g, which is according to Wikipedia Light Worsted (3 or Light in the USA, DK (Double Knit) or 8 ply in the UK, and 8 ply in Australia). I used 3.5 mm crochet hook (USA – E-4, UK-9)

The pattern is very detailed (like all my patterns), and it’s written using U.S. crochet terms. It is suitable for advanced beginners or intermediate level crocheters.

It has 22 pages and includes:

* Step-by-step instruction on how to make the square
* Step-by-step instruction on how to join squares and make the border
* More than 120 step-by-step photographs
* 2 Crochet charts (for the square and for the border) and several diagrams

The blanket measures approximately 80 x 80 cm (31,5″ x 31,5″), but it can be any size you want. I think that this pattern is also very suitable for table runners, scarfs and bedspreads. Maybe even curtains.

If you’re like me and love vintage crochet (and everything that it represents), you can try this pattern out. It’s now available in Dada’s place shop. (payment options: Credit cards & PayPal)

You can also buy it in my Ravelry shop, and in my Etsy shop. (payment option: PayPal)

Crochet pattern: Little Sheep Baby Blanket

Crochet pattern Little sheep baby blanket

For a long time I had an idea for a cute little sheep granny square in my head, but there was always something, maybe not more urgent, but a project I started, or a project which I kept even longer in my head, so the little sheep granny square had to wait its time. After several flowery pattern I made in the meantime, it was time for little sheep to finally show its cute little face to the world! Let me introduce to you: Little Sheep Baby Blanket! It’s the fourth blanket in my animal blanket series which includes:
* Teddy Bear Blanket
* Little Lion Blanket
* Rainbow Lion Blanket

Update: Vintage Style Teddy Bear Blanket is available now! (in English and German)

Crochet little sheep baby blanket

The blanket is approximately 83 cm (32.5″) long and 70 cm (27.5″) wide. It’s consisted of 30 squares (6×5), 30 little sheep heads, and I enjoyed immensely making it.

Every time I finished a square I had a feeling that one little sheep has just come alive! There is something special with the grannies which have eyes and a muzzle on it! At least to me, because it’s so obvious that I love (very, very much) cute, happy things and creatures.

Yarn. I’m very happy and grateful that I have access to such great yarn like “Tango” from St. George (manufacturer from Serbia) which I used for this blanket. “Tango” is 100% cotton yarn 125m/50g, which is (according to Wikipedia) 3 or Light in the USA; DK (Double Knit) or 8 ply in the UK; 8 ply in Australia. I used 3.5 mm crochet hook (USA – size 4/E, UK-9)

The border is very simple, and when I say “very simple” that means that you don’t have to count stitches at all, you just repeat the same stitch along the row… which means that you’re free to listen without distraction to your favorite audio book, or to your favorite podcast. I love to listen for example to The Lively Show, a podcast by Jess Lively or to The School of Greatness podcast by Lewis Howes, these 2 are among my favorites, along with unavoidable Hay House Radio (radio for your soul!).
