Daisy Baby Blanket Pattern

04/05/2017 by Dada Filed Under: Crochet blankets 2 Comments

Colors and texture. Those are the two things I love most in crochet. And this Daisy baby blanket has a lot of colors and texture. So, it is not a surprise that this is one of my favorite blankets I’ve made so far. Love these playful, happy colors and the petals which look alive…

What can I say about this blanket? It is made of 56 Daisy granny squares. Each square measures approximately 4″ x 4″ (10 x 10 cm), and the whole blanket measures 31.5″ x 27.5″ (80 x 70 cm).

Like for the majority of my crochet projects for this one I also used 100% cotton yarn 125m/50g, but this time I used the brand I had never used before. It’s “Vera” (which means “faith” in Serbian) from Yumco, the manufacturer from Serbia. I didn’t know about that yarn before, although it’s gorgeous, and it’s a real pleasure to work with. I will definitely use it in my future projects (which I’m already planning). I only used white “Tango” yarn for petals (from St. George), the rest is “Vera”.

I used 3.5 mm crochet hook (which is USA – E- 4, UK – 9). I joined the squares with single crochet, and really like what effect white color has on other colors, making them even brighter and livelier.

When I finished joining the squares, I decided to add a very simple edge, which I think goes well with the rich and textured flower granny squares.

The pattern is very detailed (brain friendly – you have only to sit down, grab your crochet hook and follow the pictures), and it’s written using US crochet terms.

There are 20 pages which include:

* Step-by-step instruction on how to make daisy granny square
* Step-by-step instruction on how to join squares and make the border
* 100 + step-by-step photographs
* 3 Crochet charts (for the square, petals and for the border) and 2 diagrams (square placement and elements of the blanket)

*

Daisy blanket pattern and step-by-step tutorial is now available in Dada’s place shop, (payment options: Credit cards & PayPal).

You can also buy it in my Ravelry shop, and in my Etsy shop. (payment option: PayPal)

I hope you will like and enjoy this pattern at least as much as I enjoyed making it! Happy crocheting

His Majesty – Classic Granny Square Blanket

17/03/2017 by Dada Filed Under: Crochet blankets 5 Comments

Here I am holding my Classic Granny Square Blanket. But, just a few months ago I couldn’t imagine that I would ever crochet anything using Classic Granny Squares. I thought they are ordinary, plain and boring. But. I was so wrong!

In my opinion, Classic Granny Square is the king of granny squares! Or, queen. Yes. That’s sounds better! The queen of granny squares! Because: They’re so easy to make (that’s a big plus for me). They’re beautiful. Simple. Uncomplicated.

And with simple, uncomplicated things you can do so much. You can make them in any size. You can make them small. You can make them big, even gigantic. And anything in between. You can make them in one color, two colors, three, four, five colors… ten colors…. The possibilities are endless, and that’s I like the most. The possibilities.

They’re like legos! You can build (crochet) anything with them. You can make them in so many different ways, and adapt to so many projects. Honestly, there is nothing that you can’t crochet using Classic Granny Squares. Now, I love them, honor them and write with a capital letter, just as they deserve.

Now, let’s say a word about this blanket. I made 36 squares (each square has 7 rounds) and joined them together with single crochet. The blanket measures approximately 80 x 80 cm (31.5” x 31.5”), and weights 550g. I used 100% cotton yarn “Tango” from St. George 125m/50g, and 3.5 mm crochet hook. The border is very simple, almost nonexistent, because I wanted to emphasize the beauty of the Classic Granny Squares, and didn’t want the edge to draw attention from them.

What about you? Do you love Classic Granny Squares? Have you noticed their beauty yet? If you haven’t maybe it’s time to give them a chance and try them out. There is a big chance that you will fall in love with them. Just like I did.

English Garden Baby Blanket

English garden baby blanket pattern
A long time ago I fell in love with English gardens. The culprit for that was Penelope Hobhouse, a famous British gardener. I enjoyed immensely watching her amazing TV gardening shows, while dreaming of having a beautiful, lush garden of my own. Now, many years after, I still don’t have any garden, let alone an English garden. I live in a flat on the seventh floor… but, I have my beautiful plants on the balcony, my little piece of heaven. There I keep a ginkgo biloba tree, which we brought from Hungary when my son was a little baby, a little olive tree we brought from Corfu island (Greece), a yellow hibiscus, also brought from Greece, a little avocado tree, grown from the seed… along with many others seasonal flowering plants…

So, I decided, if I can’t have an English garden, I can have at least an English Garden Blanket. Now, you can see how much love has been weaved into this blooming blanket.

The blanket is made of 100% cotton yarn “Tango” and “Tango color”, 125m/50g from St. George (manufacturer from Serbia). It measures approximately 83 x 68 cm (32.5″ x 26.5″).

The English Garden Blanket is similar to my Victorian Flower Blanket. Actually, the first 4 rows are the same, but the blankets have different petals, and the last 2 rows are different, too. It seems to me that the English Garden Blanket is lighter, more transparent and has that appealing lacy charm. The borders are completely different, but I think that the English Garden Blanket border would look nice on Victorian Flower Blanket and vice versa.

For this blanket I used 3,5 mm crochet hook (USA – size E-4, UK – size 9). The pattern is written using US crochet terms.

The English Garden Blanket pattern is very detailed with lots of step-by-step photographs. When I write a pattern, I always have in mind that not so long ago I was a complete beginner, not knowing anything about crochet… So I want my patterns to be clear and easy to follow. That’s why this pattern has more than 90 step-by-step photographs, 5 crochet charts and several diagrams.
