So, lets get started!

Popcorn granny square blanket free pattern
When I finished the blanket, I thought about the border, and given that I wanted very simple edge, in accordance with the blanket, which wouldn’t switch attention from the blanket, I came up with this border. It’s very simple and easy to make.

Row 1: 1 hdc in each stitch, when you reach the left corner of each square make 2 hdc in chain space before Popcorn, 2 dc in chain space after Popcorn (and before the joint of 2 squares), 2 dc in chain space after the joint (and before Popcorn), 2 hdc in chain space after Popcorn (in corners of the blanket: 3 dc in ch-3 space)
Row 2 : 1 dc in each stitch (in corners of the blanket: dc, ch-3, dc in the second dc of the group of 3 dc)

Row 3 : 1 dc in each dc (in corners of the blanket: dc, ch-3, dc in ch-3 space)
Row 4: dc in next 2 dc, Popcorn-6 in next dc; Repeat that along the blanket (in corners: dc, ch-3, dc in ch-3 space)
Row 5  & 6: 1 dc in each stitch (in corners make dc, ch-3, dc in ch-3 space)
Row 7: 1 sc in each dc ( in corners make 3 sc in ch-3 space)
Fenya blanket 5

I joined the squares with slip stitch, using only back loops. If you haven’t done this before, Lucy’s step-by-step photo tutorial is a great place to start. Thank you so much Lucy for this awesome and very detailed tutorial!
The other information about the blanket – (yarn, size, crochet hook) you can find in my previous post about the Vintage style crochet blanket.
Hope you will like this pattern. If you encounter any mistake or problem with the pattern, please let me know in the comments. Enjoy!

The Smitten Crochet Blanket

Smitten crochet blanket
To say that I love this blanket would be an understatement! I utterly adore this blanket! Every time I finish some of my crochet projects I thank the Universe for the fact that I discovered crochet! It was a miracle, a gift which completely changed the course of my life! I’m so grateful for that!smitten-blanket-free-pattern

This blanket has been on my to do list for a while, actually, as soon as I saw this post I new that I will make this blanket one day. It has been Love at first sight. For the blanket I used my trusty “Tango” yarn which is 100% cotton yarn 125m/50g (3 or Light in the USA; DK (Double Knit) or 8 ply in the UK; 8 ply in Australia). I really like how this color (light lilac no. 406) emphasizes the beauty of this pattern. I absolutely love this blanket, and I really enjoyed making it! I’s my favorite crochet project so far!Free crochet popcorn granny square pattern

I wanted to make a regular sized blanket, but not too large, because, cotton is heavy, and I didn’t want the blanket to bee too heavy, so I made a “sofa sized” blanket, as I called it. It’s the perfect size to snuggle under it on the sofa with some interesting book, or some awesome crochet project in your hands…
This handsome guy in the picture is my 3-year-old Tibetan terrier Timi. He’s my black & white shadow, and he takes me kindly for a walk to a park every single morning!Simple crochet edge free pattern
The blanket measures 115 x 165 cm (45″ x 65″), and weighs 1400g. It consists of 35 granny squares (5 x 7). I joined the squares with slip stitch, in the same way Haafner joined her squares. You can find the instructions in her post.Free crochet border pattern
And now to get to the point you are waiting for since the beginning of this post, the pattern. Where can you find the pattern for this blanket? That’s good news! The pattern is free and you can find it here, on one of the most beautiful crochet blogs! I’m sure that most of you are familiar with gorgeous byHaafner blog. This is a place I visit often, and I’m always eager to see what new Haafner made with her magical hands. I really love her style, her use of colors, photography, everything actually.Smitten blanket border
The border. From the beginning, I knew that I want a simple edge. The pattern itself is so rich and full of texture, that I didn’t want to attract attention to the edge, didn’t want the edge to speak its own story. So, it plays just a supporting role here. But also very important role.
First, I made one row of dc with the same color, then I made one row of hdc with white yarn, and then added this simplest border ever. I think it looks nice.Smitten blanket crochet border chart
I made this crochet chart for the edge in case you like it. As you can see it’s very simple.
ch-3, skip the next hdc, made Popcorn stitch (4dc) in the next hdc, ch-3, skip the next hdc, make sc in the next hdc. Repeat that along the blanket.Vintage granny square free pattern
Thank you so much Haafner for this beautiful pattern and for sharing your remarkable work with us! It’s always a great pleasure to visit your beautiful place!

Rainbow Lion Baby Blanket

Rainbow lion baby blanket pattern
After I finished the pattern for my Little Lion Baby Blanket, I immediately started to work on my next pattern. I decided to make another baby blanket, this time with a dog granny square. I had a picture of a cute little french bulldog, or Boston terrier in my head. I actually made a granny square with a white french bulldog on it, which I liked, but then, I came up with the idea of another little lion, this time with a 3D muzzle and a different mane.
Dadas place crochet baby blanket pattern
After about twenty minutes, in front of me, there was a lion, looking at me with a mischievous smile on his cute little face. It wasn’t a dog, but it was exactly what I was looking for. So, one more time, I learned a lesson in creativity. You start with an idea, work on it, play with it, work more, play more, and then, completely unexpectedly something happens, and you have your idea dressed in entirely different clothes. And you know what? The new clothes are so much better!
So, the first lesson in creativity is to be open, and to let your ideas to develop, to let them try different things, new outfits… treat them like teenagers, give them their freedom… and they will thrive. Or treat the new ideas like butterflies, let them land on your hand, immerse yourself into the beautiful pattern of their wings, realize and enjoy their beauty…
The second lesson in creativity is to enjoy the process…

This was a story about this pattern, which I didn’t even intend to tell you when I started to write this post. I’m obviously very indulgent person, so I allowed my creativity to lead me, and instead of driving on a highway, we went for a slow walk through the park. And now we’re going to come back to the highway, so I will tell you something about this blanket.
Cute animal crochet baby blanket pattern and step by step tutorial
It measures approximately 27.5″ x 27.5″ (70 cm x 70 cm) and it’s composed of 49 granny squares. You can easily adjust the size of the blanket and make it bigger, simply by adding more rows of squares. I used my favorite 100% cotton yarn “Tango” from St. George 125m/50g, which is 3 or Light in the USA and DK or 8 ply in the UK and Australia. I used 3.5 mm crochet hook.

Like all my patterns, this one is also very detailed, with lots of step-by-step photographs (more then 100!) I think that advanced beginner who mastered the basic stitches would have no problems to accomplish it. when I write the pattern, I always have in mind that not so long ago I was a beginner too, with absolutely no clue about crochet, and with no one to teach me, except the great teacher of our era – the Internet (with the capital I)
